Contact Lenses FAQs

Ques 1. Why do I need a prescription?
Contact lenses are a medical device and sit directly on the eye. People who wear contact lenses are much more likely to suffer from eye infections etc. if they do not have regular checkups.
We need to make sure that it is still healthy for you to wear lenses and usually will recommend the most up to date products for your current needs. Your contact lens prescription lasts for 6 months, so please ensure your prescription is up to date before you run out and want to order some more lenses so that we can get them to you asap!
Ques 2. Can I buy contact lenses online or through phone order?
You can order your lenses online or via phone order, and certain brands are able to prepare home delivery for you. However, to be able to successfully order your contact lenses;
A – You must have a valid prescription from within 6 months.
B – If you are a first-time customer to our store, a contact lens health check must be conducted by our Optometrists before dispensing you any contact lenses. Contact lenses cannot be sold unless an eye check has been done within 6 months.
Ques 3. Can I wear contact lenses?
In most cases, yes. Our optometrist can advise you on your suitability following your comprehensive vision and eye health assessment. The latest contact lenses can correct most kinds of focusing issues, including myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness), astigmatism (irregularly shaped eyes) and presbyopia (reading problems with age).
Ques 4. Do contact lenses hurt my eyes?
Today’s soft contact lenses are extremely comfortable. Advances in lens material technologies have made the latest generation of contact lenses safer, more comfortable and healthier for your eyes than ever before. You’ll forget you’re even wearing them. If you tried contact lenses before and didn’t enjoy wearing them, it’s time to give them another try. We think you’ll be impressed with how far the new lenses have come.
Ques 5. Is my child too young for contact lenses?
There’s no minimum age for trying contact lenses. Our optometrist has successfully fitted contact lenses for many younger children. It depends on your child’s maturity and whether they are ready, capable and motivated to give them a go. Parents are an important part of the process too. We’ll explain to both you and your child all the steps in handling and wearing their first contact lenses. For children we generally recommend starting with daily disposable lenses which are easier and safer for all their activities including swimming. Ortho-K night-time lenses is another great option for kids, with the lenses worn in the safety of home under parental supervision. Research has found that children who wear contact lenses are happier and more confident than kids who wear glasses.
Ques 6. What contact lens options are available?
All kinds of contact lenses from soft lenses to advanced hard lenses are available at all our outlets. We fit daily disposable lenses, fortnightly and monthly replacement lenses, astigmatism ‘toric’ lenses, multifocal lenses, cosmetic-colored lenses, myopia control lenses, rigid gas-permeable lenses (RGP), and orthokeratology lenses (Ortho K) that restore clear vision during sleep. Our experienced contact lens optometrist will recommend the lens options best suited for your eye condition and your individual lifestyle needs.
Ques 7. Are contact lenses difficult to use?
Wearing contact lenses for the first time takes a little practice, but it’s not difficult. Not as scary as you might imagine. It’s like riding a bike — once you learn you won’t forget. We are trained to give you the best possible experience and will patiently guide you through the process of putting the lenses in, taking them out, and taking good care of them. After one week we’ll see you again to make sure you’re happy and going well with your new lenses.
Ques 8. Can I have both glasses and contact lenses?
Of course! You may wish to wear glasses at work, and contact lenses for the weekend, for gym, sport or special occasions. Have two different looks. With occasional contact lens wear, daily disposable lenses are usually best. Wear a pair for the day and simply discard them when you’re done. No cleaning, easy and hassle-free. You could even wear colored contact lenses and glasses together – some people do! Express your individual style, your way.
Ques 9. How long can I wear my contact lenses?
It depends on the product you are using. It is generally recommended not to wear your lenses for more than 8 – 10 hours. If find yourself wearing > 10 hours per day, your eye care professional can recommend lenses that are better able to cater to your lifestyle needs.
Ques 10. Can I wear contact lenses if I have dry eyes?
Yes. In mild cases, you may use eye lubricants or rewetting drop to improve wearing experience. However, wearing lenses may further aggravate your dry eyes symptoms. In severe dry eyes conditions, it is advisable to treat the cause of dry eyes before exploring other lens options.
Ques 11. Can I swim with my contact lenses?
Yes. However, it recommended to use only daily disposable lenses and to dispose the lenses immediately after you are done with the water activities.
Ques 12. Will I lose my contact lenses in my eye?
It is impossible for your lenses to get lost or missing in your eye. However, there are cases where the lens folds in half and gets trapped underneath your upper eyelid. These lenses can be easily removed after dislodging it from the lids with the use of eye rewetting drops. If you cannot find or remove the lenses, ask your eye care professional to help you.
Ques 13. Can I wear make-up with contact lenses?
Yes. It is generally recommended to wear your lenses before you make up and remove your lenses before removing your make up. This is to minimize contamination and makeup build-up on your lenses.

» Follow the recommended wearing schedule and lens care regimen.
» Storing your lenses in clean and dry area. Toilet is not a good place for storage.
» Stop your lens wear and contact your eye care profession if you experience any symptoms of eye infections.
